All the decorations

Meet Harrison!  Harrison came to live with us in 2017.  The addition of Harrison is quite interesting and a fun way that I now see the season that is upon us.  This year I decided to decorate our house a tad early.  Our son was coming home from college in September, and we were not going to see him for his birthday, so I wanted him to experience Halloween at home.  (He was so thrilled that I had done this-disclaimer he is about to turn 21)  I was told that I might have gone overboard on the decorations.  So, I wanted to let y’all know that guess what?  I don’t march to the world’s drum.  I am my own drum, guitar and singer.  I am the band!

When your children are older you will find that Halloween takes on a new meaning.  When we are in July in Texas and we are sweating bullets the retail world loves to remind us that Halloween is right around the corner.  I mean come on!  Not only are we now dreading taking our little’s to the grocery store, but now we have to tell them that, “No, we are not buying the candy in July for October.”  It truly is an evil trick the world of retail plays on us.  Halloween is the ultimate holiday for children.  One night they get to go knock on complete strangers doors and say, “trick-or treat,” and they get a boat load of FREE candy.  Yep, free candy and maybe a healthy snack thrown in here or there, but those immediately meet the trash can.

I decided to make this season different for those living and coming to my home.  I had so much fun finding fancy decorations that were purposeful and non purposeful (ok, mostly non-purposeful).  I did not leave much to be questioned when it concerned Halloween at our house down in the cul-de-sac.

Take the pictures, take the movies and enjoy this season with your children.  Have fun making special treats, enjoy choosing a costume and make memories with your kids during this Halloween.  To those with the babies, it is hard!  It is exhausting and it can feel like a hamster wheel.  To those with the toddlers who are driving you nuts wanting candy, and all the costumes and all the decorations, enjoy it goes fast.  To those with grade school children, enjoy the class room parties (well, they are probably technically fall parties, because we have to be politically correct for everyone.)  Make the treats, read the books for the millionth time and enjoy the creation of what they can dream up.  To those with the budding hormonal kids, yep I know.  It is awful!  It is stressful, but they still want to do Halloween.  So, enjoy it with them.  Have a party and invite their friends over for treats and movies.  Enjoy all the things.  Enjoy all the ages and all the crazy, because one day you’ll walk in Target drenched in sweat and realize your there.  You’re at that moment when Halloween is now what you want it to be.  You have a choice ladies and gentlemen!  It is all yours so choose wisely.

Halloween is coming like it or not!  Make the memories, eat the junk, take the pictures and stop and be in the moment.  Have fun, enjoy this season of ghosts, goblins and sugar.  Let your children see that you can have fun with them.  I promise you won’t regret it.  The time when you decide what costume you want to wear!
